HUD Secretary Statement

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads the nation on a variety of critical issues, including home ownership, affordable housing, and anti-discrimination work. As an affordable housing provider since 1858, we believe that the secretary of HUD must understand the intersecting complexities of poverty and housing, particularly as they relate to domestic violence. We encourage the Senate to ensure that any nominee has deep familiarity with the breadth of programs overseen by HUD, expertise in public policy, and a commitment to the longstanding work of the agency. Although an accomplished neurosurgeon, Dr. Carson’s lack of experience paired with his troubling stances on issues of equity make him the wrong fit for this important role.
