YWCA Department of Education Statement

The Department of Education is responsible for a wide range of programs that impact young people from their earliest years through college. The person who leads this department must be willing and able to build and protect bright futures for all students. Betsy DeVos is President-elect Trump's choice to lead this work, but much is still unknown about Ms. DeVos. At this time, we have major concerns about Ms. DeVos' involvement with anti-LGBTQ organizations and her narrow professional focus on charter schools. YWCA USA is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for all children, and so we call on the Senate to be thorough in their review, paying special attention to her commitment to marginalized youth and students' civil rights.
